Sophie Thatcher breaks silence on Rogue rumors for X-Men reboot

Sophie Thatcher finally broke her silence on rumors about playing Rogue in the MCU X-Men reboot. In a recent interview, she said she would be open to playing the popular power-absorbing mutant if she got to work with a collaborative director.

On the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, the Companion star revealed she has seen posts envisioning her in the role. She found this “interesting,” adding, “I’m open if it’s a director that’s down to collaborate and listen to me. I want to have a voice. I know that’s absolutely possible and people do that all the time.”

She stressed that she wanted to ensure the “right story” would be told, especially for a huge franchise like the X-Men.

“It’s like that itself has such an impact, and I want to make sure it’s the right story,” she continued. “Not just spreading like violence and shock value, but something meaningful.”

When the host asked her if X-Men resonated with her as a kid, she replied, “It’s the blue people.” She further responded while laughing, “I’m going to get a lot of hate on that one. Like Jennifer Lawrence in blue. Mystique.” Thatcher concluded, “I’m open. Always. I’m open to anything.”

Jake Schreier, who will helm the reboot from Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo’s script, recently addressed the casting rumors. While he clarified that what fans have been seeing on the internet was unofficial, he assured that the creative team was following a “process.”

Plot details for the film, still far away from entering production, are currently unknown. However, Schreier teased a fresh creative direction for the franchise. While speaking with Screen Rant, he said, “I think really just what we’ve been talking about more than anything is how do we make it feel new, and how do we go places that feel like we’re succeeding [our predecessors]?”

He continued, “Obviously, this series has done such incredible things and succeeded in so many ways, and done so many beautiful things. Like, what are some places we can go, and some areas of the lore that we can explore where it feels like we’re taking people to a new place.”
