Singapore content creator Simon Khung Wei Nan – better known by his online alias Simonboy – does not care about any “social media repercussions” following his decision to found the Forever Megan Charity.
Simonboy, in an interview with CNA, said his “main motive” was to honour his late daughter Megan Khung. “I don’t think anything should stop me,” he said.
Megan, aged four, tragically died in 2020 after suffering horrendous abuse from her mother Foo Li Ping and her then-boyfriend Wong Shi Xiang. The case brought national attention and government scrutiny after it was revealed that lapses by multiple agencies could have helped the child more.
Foo and Khung had Megan shortly after they married in 2015. The couple separated not long after and Khung has a history of drug offences.
Simonboy has been open about his past struggles with drug addiction but his checkered past – including jail time – and success as an online personality typically leads to negative social media comments about his parenting.
And by naming his new social initiative after his daughter, it has invited further “unnecessary” comments online, with some questioning his motive for using Megan’s name. “If I’m scared of repercussions and stop doing this, I’m just wasting away the given opportunity to help,” he told CNA.
