Smith Coffee & Cafe, located in Eden Prairie’s historic Smith-Douglas-More House, plans to open a second location at 3948 W. 50th St. in Edina, near 50th and France.

The building, formerly home to D’Amico & Sons, felt like a perfect place to expand the coffee shop, owner Ann Schuster said. Now in the preparation stages, she hopes to open the Edina location this fall.

Alex Schuster, Ann’s son and Smith’s general manager, said the Eden Prairie location has received positive feedback from customers. They had considered expanding for about two years before inquiring about the property.

“It was really fast,” Alex said. “It went from like a total dream to an agreement in less than a month.”

The Edina location will keep the name Smith, though the name comes from the historic building that houses the Eden Prairie location, Ann said. They decided to keep the name for consistency and familiarity with their current customer base.

“Even though it’s got more of a historical connection to Eden Prairie, we feel like there is some brand awareness, and we have customers that will know what that is when they see it open in Eden Prairie,” Ann said.

The two locations will have similar menus, with many of the same favorite drinks, though there is an opportunity for location-specific menu items in the future, Alex said.

Ann added that the Smith team is excited to open another location and has received positive customer feedback.

“I have had several current loyal customers say that they’re excited to have a second one, because they spend time in both neighborhoods, so having another opportunity to visit Smith feels good to them,” Ann said.
