The Indian badminton duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down to the top-seeded pair of Seo Seung Jae and Kim Won Ho on Sunday in the championship clash of the China Masters men’s doubles event.
The Korean champions registered a 21-19, 21-15 triumph over Rankireddy and Shetty in an awe-inspiring display of their abilities.
Rankireddy and Shetty began their campaign in China with a 24-22, 21-13 victory over the Malaysian duo of Arif Junaid and Roy King Yap, followed by a comfortable 21-13, 21-12 win against the Chinese Taipei pair in the Round of 16.
The Indian duo maintained their momentum with a 21-14, 21-14 win over the Chinese pair Ren Xiang Yu and Xie Honan in the quarterfinals, and secured their spot in the final with a 21-17, 21-14 triumph over Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the semifinals.
Sat-Chi, as they are affectionately known, fell short at the final hurdle of the Hong Kong Open last week and are still seeking their first title of the year after battling injuries and form issues.
However, the eighth-seeded Indian pair were no match for the duo of Seo and Kim, who took the top podium spot with a statement win.
