Prayagraj: As Katra Ramlila is set to begin on Sep 21, the artists of the Katra Ramlila committee have started making positive changes in their lifestyles to do justice to their roles. Actors including Rajveer Singh (Ram), Abhishek Giri (Laxman), Shwetank Mishra (Ravan), Shubhranshu Pandey (Hanuman), and Shubhendru Kumar (Meghnath), have transformed their lifestyles by adopting vegetarian diet and a healthy lifestyle with early rising, exercising and mediation.Abhishek Giri, a prominent web series \TV artist portraying Lord Laxman, dedicates at least two hours daily to the gymnasium and has adopted a completely vegetarian diet. Taking to TOI, he said, “I reduced 16 kg in the past three months and am currently going to the gym to shape my character for Ramlila.” He added “We all actors are attending gym for a perfect body for Ramlila”. Similarly, artists playing Ram, Ravan, Hanuman, and other roles have also embraced a satvik and healthy lifestyle. The director of Katra Ramlila, Subodh Singh, said, “Artists are making sincere efforts to immerse themselves in their respective characters during practice sessions. For this, they have undoubtedly brought changes in their lifestyles, most of them turning completely vegetarian and trying to be chivalrous.” Singh believes that by making significant personal changes, these artists will be better equipped to portray their characters perfectly. The majority of artists playing Ram, Laxman, Hanuman, Ravan and Angad have also developed habits such as waking up early, seeking blessings from elders, consuming vegetables, juice, and milk, and meditating. The Katra Ramlila will begin with the birth of demon king Ravan on Sep 21. The committee is also famous for organising Ravan Baraat. The festivities in Katra, Prayagraj, are unique among the many Ramlilas performed across India, as the place is considered to be Ravan’s maternal grandfather’s place.“Although Katra was home to Rishi Bharadwaja’s ashram, for locals, this locality is still Ravan’s nanihal, the maternal home of Ravan’s stepmother Ilavida,” said a committee member.
