President Trump touts support for Wisconsin farmers

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. — President Donald Trump wrapped up the week with a stop in Wisconsin, which marked his first trip back to the Badger State since he was reelected in 2024.

Friday’s visit focused on farmers as the president hosted a roundtable at Custer Farms just outside of Chippewa Falls.

New trade markets, less red tape and no taxes on rural property loan interest were just a few of the wins President Trump said he has delivered for farmers in Wisconsin.

“Under the last administration, Biden and the radical left Democrats in Congress crushed farmers with brutal restrictions,” President Trump told the crowd.

He also vowed to curb costs and make things better for farmers in the next 90 days.

“Now, it’s been, over the last couple of months since we went in for the military operation, you’ve seen fertilizer go up and you’ve seen energy go up,” President Trump added. “It’s going to come down to where it was or lower.”

As the midterms approach, some members of Congress say they are doing everything they can to help the commander-in-chief.

“We’re going to make sure that our farmers don’t have to wring their hands at night because they’re worried about paying the bills,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, said.

President Trump is the latest in a string of high-profile supporters to visit Wisconsin alongside Rep. Derrick Van Orden, who faces reelection this fall.

Vice President JD Vance visited Plover, Wis. in February, followed by stop in Sparta, Wis. from transportation secretary Sean Duffy in March. After that, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins held a roundtable of her own in Onalaska, Wis. in April. Earlier this week, health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. toured a dairy farm in nearby Elk Mound, Wis. for June Dairy Month.

“I think that maybe it’s because we’re going on the offensive,” Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters told Spectrum News. “Maybe Congressman Tiffany could deliver a major win there statewide. We have candidates all over the place that I think are going to exceed expectations.”

A new Marquette Law School national survey released this week shows President Trump’s approval rating is declining. However, the president’s influence appears to still be strong among voters in Republican primary elections as evidenced by results in Indiana, Louisiana, Kentucky and Texas.

Meanwhile, ahead of President Trump’s visit, Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin released a report criticizing how Trump administration policies have impacted Wisconsin farmers, including raising input costs and cutting off access to customers who buy products produced in the Badger State.

“Wisconsin farmers do backbreaking work to produce world-class products that feed the world and drive our rural economies. President Trump came into office promising to support our farmers but instead has taken every opportunity to jack up their costs, limit their customers, and cut into their margins,” Sen. Baldwin said in a statement. “Between Donald Trump’s trade war, unnecessary war in Iran, and attacks on our health care system, Wisconsin farmers are paying more for everything, and Donald Trump has no solutions to the problems he’s caused. As President Trump visits Wisconsin, he owes our farmers more than lip service – they need real relief from the high costs they are paying.”
