President Trump announces support for Iowa Rep. Feenstra in race for governor

DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) — President Donald Trump announced in a social media post Friday afternoon that he is endorsing U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra, (R – 4th District, Hull) in the five-person Iowa primary race for governor.

President Trump chose Feenstra — who was elected to Congress in 2020 the same year Trump lost re-election — over four other Republican candidates: state Rep. Eddie Andrews of Johnston, former state rep. Brad Sherman of Williamsburg, businessman Zach Lahn of Belle Plaine, and former Iowa Department of Administrative Services Director Adam Steen of Runnells.

Feenstra, who has chosen to skip all candidate debates and avoided joint appearances with the other four candidates, has worked to earn the minimum 35% support on primary night to secure the party’s nomination.

Trump’s endorsement could provide the most valuable public voice of support from any potential Republican in the campaign’s final days before Tuesday’s primary election.

The endorsement is a blow to the other four Republican primary candidates who hoped to take advantage of the fact that President Trump had stayed out of the race publicly.
