Passenger injured in fire sparked by power bank on Incheon-Hong Kong flight

A small fire triggered by a power bank broke out aboard an Asiana Airlines flight from Incheon to Hong Kong on Thursday night, injuring a passenger.

Cabin crew put out the fire with an extinguisher within two minutes, while the passenger carrying the power bank suffered burns to their hand, according to a report by South Korea’s national broadcaster KBS.

Flight OZ745, carrying 284 passengers, departed Incheon International Airport and arrived at Hong Kong International Airport at 10.52pm.

“The aircraft arrived in Hong Kong normally without any emergency measures such as an emergency landing,” an Asiana Airlines official told the national broadcaster.

Both the Hong Kong Airport Authority and the police force said they were not called in to assist with the situation.

A passenger with the handle “2milkyou” posted in Korean on the social media platform Threads with a blurred photo and a caption: “I was on OZ745 from Incheon to Hong Kong. I was in row 22 but a fire broke out around row 27. For a moment, I thought I was going to die.”
