Off-duty Hong Kong policeman arrested for allegedly attacking fellow officers

Hong Kong police have arrested an off-duty officer for allegedly assaulting colleagues responding to a noise complaint in a flat.

The force said on Tuesday that the 32-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of attacking the officers who arrived at the Tsing Yi residence at 1am on Sunday in response to the complaint. He was said to be reeking of alcohol at the time of the offence.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect was a police officer. He has since been assigned to administrative duties and suspended from carrying a firearm.

He was held on charges of assaulting officers, obstructing police in the execution of their duties and failing to carry identification documents.

The Kwai Tsing regional crime unit is handling the case and has ordered the suspect to report to a police station next month after his release from custody.

The force stressed that it would take firm action against officers who broke the law.
