BYD has made some huge claims about its ultra-fast EV charging technology.
So Kyle from Out of Spec Reviews flew to China to see whether the numbers were actually real.
He wanted to test BYD’s “Flash Charging” system without the usual polished media demo setup.
What he found was enough to make him call it one of the biggest moments in modern EV history.
BYD’s Charging Claims Sound Almost Ridiculous

At the center of the story is BYD’s Gen 2 Blade Battery technology.
According to BYD, the system can charge from 10 to 70 percent in around five minutes.
It can reportedly reach nearly full charge in roughly nine minutes.
Even in extremely cold conditions, BYD claims the charging time only increases by a few minutes.
This Wasn’t A Perfect Lab Test

Kyle didn’t test a perfectly prepared show car.
Instead, he used a damaged Denza Z9 GT sitting behind a dealership in Beijing.
The car reportedly had its front bumper removed and had not been preconditioned for the test.
That made the result feel much closer to a real-world charging session than a staged demonstration.
The Denza Charged Shockingly Fast

The Denza started at around 30 percent battery and reached 80 percent in just five minutes.
By the eight-minute mark, the car was at roughly 97 percent.
That’s faster than many EVs take to reach a useful mid-charge, let alone be nearly fully charged.
The Charger Can Push Over One Megawatt

The BYD Flash Charger can reportedly deliver more than one megawatt of charging power, which is far beyond what most current passenger EVs can accept.
The system uses battery storage at the charging site to help deliver massive output without needing an equally massive grid connection.
BYD also plans to deploy thousands of these chargers across China, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and other regions.
Why This Could Be A Big Deal

The real breakthrough isn’t just that one expensive EV can charge quickly.
BYD also wants to roll this battery technology across much of its lineup.
That means cheaper BYD models could eventually charge far faster than many premium EVs sold today.
If BYD pulls that off at scale, it could erase one of the biggest objections people still have about electric cars.
Kyle Walked Away Convinced
Kyle said the experience felt like a turning point for EVs.
After watching the Denza charge from 30 to 97 percent in around eight minutes, he compared it to the launch of the Tesla Model S or Model 3 in terms of industry impact.
That may sound dramatic, but if fast charging becomes this quick, this common, and this easy to use, the EV road trip argument changes almost overnight.
