Chefs often consider a variety of factors when it comes to how a dish is plated — aiming for visual appeal as much as flavor. Bold color contrasts catch the eye, and architecturally intriguing arrangements add an element of surprise.
So, it’s no surprise that plating is a big concern, even for non-chefs like me. I experienced this firsthand during a friendly cooking competition held to unveil Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil’s revamped look at Marriott Manila, Newport World Resorts.
As I arranged chunks of beef, potato wedges, carrots, and bell peppers on a pristine white plate, a scene from The Bear kept flashing through my mind. The show’s character, chef David Fields (Joel McHale), a nightmare of chef Carmen Berzatto’s (Jeremy Allen White) past, uses mockery and insults to sharpen the young chef’s focus on every detail of plating. That moment reminded me of the importance of presentation.
And guess what? The beef caldereta my teammate, content creator Robbie Obispo (@robbie_obispo), and I prepared not only won the Best Dish Presentation Award but also took home the Best Dish award. But what truly made our dish both healthy and delicious — and more “satis-frying” — was the use of fresh ingredients and Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil, which boasts the lowest saturated fat among all vegetable oils — making it especially heart-friendly.

New look, same jolly goodness
Designed by a French artist, the new Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil bottle is more than just stylish — it’s practical. The compact design makes it easier to store, even on tight shelves, while the slimmer shape offers a more comfortable grip.
A new symbol on the bottle artfully merges the letter “H” with a heart, which also forms an “M” and resembles a canola flower petal. This simple yet meaningful design underscores the brand’s natural roots and dedication to heart health.
While the packaging has evolved, the product inside remains unchanged — and for good reason. It’s still the same 100-percent pure Canola oil trusted by Filipino families for years: free of cholesterol, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and with the lowest saturated fats among vegetable oils — all of which help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
“Did you know that omega-3 is something the body can’t produce on its own?” explains Marilou Acuña, marketing director, Fly Ace Corporation. “That’s why we need to get it from external sources like fish and Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil.”
Whether you’re stir-frying, making stews, or baking, Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil continues to deliver love and care in every drop — supporting healthier cooking for your loved ones.

The winning dish: Beef caldereta made with love and Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil.
Familiar, but better
“We weren’t just after a prettier bottle,” says Abigail Ng-Reyes, vice president of marketing at Fly Ace Corporation. “Our goal was to redefine how it feels to cook with Heart Mate every day — to create a product that consumers trust and are proud to keep in their kitchens.”
Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil remains the trusted choice, now with a bottle that looks and feels just right — a reflection of its enduring quality.
Heart Mate Canola Oil is available at all leading groceries and supermarkets nationwide.
