The Cheshire wheelchair racer, 28, narrowly missed out on a medal over 400m on Tuesday but has a chance of rectifying that in Thursday morning’s 1500m final.
Maguire finished third in his heat with a time of 2:53.36 as Chinese pair Jin Hua and Luo Xingchuan came first and second.
The Greater Manchester star bagged 800m bronze at the World Championships in Kobe last year and will be bidding to emulate those exploits over three and three-quarter laps on Thursday.
Maguire, whose 800m campaign here in the Indian capital gets underway on Saturday, said: “We knew that today was just about coming top five, as the top five make it through to the final.
“I just wanted to get into the first half of the race and stay there.
“Overall, I’m really happy.”
