Julien Dossena is departing Rabanne.
The French designer took the helm at Rabanne in 2013 when he was just 30 years old. Prior to joining the house, he cut his teeth working at Balenciaga, where he spent four years under Nicolas Ghesquière. While Dossena explored a host of references during his time at Rabanne—spanning the 1940s to ’90s grunge—celebrities have flocked to his expansive chainmail vocabulary and his contemporary take on the retrofuturist house codes.
Dossena’s distinctive glamour particularly appealed to the pop-star set—who repped the designer both onstage and off. Beyoncé, for one, tapped Rabanne for both the Cowboy Carter and Renaissance tours. But the looks transcended performance: Suki Waterhouse embraced the modish look in a gold sparkle skirt set in Venice while Chappell Roan went for a Medieval chainmail set at the 2024 VMAs.
And Dossena’s oeuvre went beyond the spangly, Space Age remit of Rabanne, too. Emily Ratajkowski modeled his fondness for power clashing at the GQ Australia Man of the Year Awards in 2018, while Michelle Obama took his more casual lace-up corduroy set for a spin at SXSW last year.
Here, revisit the best of Julien Dossena’s Rabanne on celebrities, from Miley Cyrus’s 20th anniversary homage to Hannah Montana to Sabrina Carpenter’s glittery Met Gala debut.
