A flotilla of three Chinese cutters was spotted near the waters of Manila’s northernmost island chain, prompting the Philippine Coast Guard to track their movements in the Luzon Strait. Manila began monitoring the formation on Thursday as it approached Batanes, a remote island chain between the Philippines and Taiwan in the Luzon Strait. The agency utilized its Canadian-provided dark vessel detection system to detect and observe cutters Hailing (3301), Dahao (3304) and Zhongjian (4304), Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Commodore Jay Tarriela said in a statement.
