A Hong Kong teaching hospital has launched an investigation after a viral video showed its medical staff using syringes as “water pistols” inside a ward.
In a post on social media on Thursday, several staff were filmed squirting liquid at each other with syringes while their colleagues looked on.
“Playing with water at the nurse station of [ward] K20N at Queen Mary Hospital,” an online user named hospital_secrets wrote when posting the video.
“Using syringes as water pistols while they are on duty and uploading it to Instagram as well.”
In response, the hospital in Pok Fu Lam confirmed the incident had taken place on its premises. A preliminary investigation found that several staff members had shown “inappropriate behaviour” at a ward’s nurse station during the early hours.
“The hospital is now conducting a full investigation and will follow up on this incident. It will deal with the issue seriously and take disciplinary measures based on established personnel procedures,” a spokesman said.
“The hospital wants to emphasise that this is an isolated incident; the services in the ward involved and patient safety have not been affected.”
