Hong Kong authorities praise schools for major progress in fostering patriotism

Hong Kong authorities have commended schools for making significant progress in fostering patriotism among students over the past academic year, with national education now steadily woven into daily teaching and learning.

An annual report, released on Monday, also highlighted teachers’ stronger grasp of national security education, enabling them to guide students on its significance amid the threats and challenges confronting the country.

The Education Bureau’s 2024-25 report reviewing 235 secondary, primary and special schools devoted eight of its 39 pages to the institutions’ efforts to boost patriotism.

“The schools actively implemented a whole-school approach to promote national education, striving to foster patriotism and laying a solid foundation for students’ national identity,” the report said.

“Compared with the previous school year, [their] performance has significantly improved, with leadership and coordination being particularly outstanding. The leadership and diligent efforts of the schools’ management deserve praise and recognition.”

The report noted that schools had intensified efforts to promote national security education both in and outside the classroom.
