Samsung unveiled a new line of foldables at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London this week, and one of them is the clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip 8. With looks and specs very similar to its predecessor, the Z Flip 8 is, however, a little more expensive: It starts at $1,200 for the 256GB model, which is $100 more than the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 when that debuted. However, the Z Flip 7 did get a $80 price hike this year due to the current memory shortage crisis, so the price differential is actually more like $20 when compared that way.
The other major Android flip-phone manufacturer is Motorola, which also released a whole new line of Razr clamshells this year. Its most premium handheld is the Razr Ultra 2026, which starts at a whopping $1,500, though you do get 512GB base storage for that price. It also offers a few extra enhancements like a 165Hz refresh rate on both displays (compared to the 120Hz refresh rate on the Flip 8).
While Samsung typically holds the upper hand when it comes to foldable Androids, Motorola has really stepped it up in recent years with its Razr flip line, especially when going head-to-head with the Galaxy Z Flip series.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 vs. Motorola Razr Ultra 2026: Price
Neither of these clamshell foldables can be called affordable — the cheapest in this device category is the standard Motorola Razr 2026 at $800 — but there’s definitely a price difference between the two.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts at $1,200 for 256GB of storage, or $1,400 for 512GB of storage. The Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 is only available in a single configuration at $1,500 for 512GB of storage.
The new Ultra keeps that amazing 4-inch cover display, which is still outstanding to use and offers the best experience on any 2026 flip phone. There are now video wallpapers for it, too.

Display and design
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 has a 4.1-inch AMOLED cover display and a 6.9-inch AMOLED main screen, both of which have a 120Hz refresh rate. Both displays also have a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.
The Motorola Razr Ultra 2026, on the other hand, has a 4-inch AMOLED external screen and a 7-inch AMOLED main display, each with a 165Hz refresh rate. The external display has a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, while the main screen has a peak brightness of 5,000 nits.
Size-wise, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is slightly thinner than the Razr Ultra 2026. It measures 6.1mm when open and 13.1mm when closed, while the Razr Ultra is 7.19mm when open and 15.69mm when closed. The Flip 8 is lighter as well, weighing in at 180 grams, while the Razr Ultra is slightly more at 199 grams.
Cameras
The Z Flip 8 has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel selfie camera, which is unchanged from the Z Flip 7.
The Razr Ultra 2026, however, has rather impressive camera specs. It has 50-megapixel cameras for the wide, ultrawide and front-facing cameras, plus its main camera is equipped with an image sensor called Lofic, which stands for lateral overflow integration capacitor. This allows for a wider dynamic range for photos and should result in better-looking images.

Battery and performance
Like last year’s model, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 has a 4,300-mAh battery with 25-watt wired and 15-watt wireless charging. The Razr Ultra 2026, on the other hand, has a rather beefy 5,000-mAh battery with 30-watt wireless and 68-watt wired charging.
Both the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Razr Ultra 2026 are equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processors. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 ships with 12GB of RAM, compared to the Razr Ultra’s 16GB. The Razr Ultra is only available with 512GB of storage, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 ships with either 256GB or 512GB.
