European carmakers suffer chip shortage that threatens production amid West-China technology fight

London | European car makers are warning they could be forced to mothball production lines within days because of a shortage of chips, in the latest salvo in the battle between the West and China over the technology and minerals that are the bedrocks of the 21st century.

The ongoing fallout from the fight between the Dutch government and China over semiconductors coincided with an energy think tank urging European lawmakers to speed up their efforts to join the global scramble for critical minerals, including doing more to encourage investment in projects.
