Elderly Hong Kong woman arrested after tragedy in hotel room

Hong Kong police have arrested an elderly woman on suspicion of murder after she and her husband were found unconscious in a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel room, with the man later pronounced dead in hospital.

Cleaners at the Ramada Grand hotel on Austin Avenue discovered the woman, 73, and the man, 77, at about 4.50pm on Thursday, police said.

Emergency services rushed them to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, but the man died shortly after arrival.

The woman was being treated in an intensive care unit.

Police originally investigated the case as suicide but later reclassified it as murder after knife wounds were found on the man’s body and arrested the woman, sources said.

It was understood that the pair had long rented the hotel room.
