Driver trapped after collision with suspected distracted driver

Mother and 2-year-old daughter rescued from human trafficking operation in Florida motel

A serious crash involving a suspected distracted driver shut down westbound traffic on S.R. 520 for more than one hour on Monday morning.

Videos posted on local police facebook page shows that the collision occurred at the intersection of Blake Avenue during the morning rush hour.

Fire Rescue crews and patrol officers responded to help a driver trapped inside his vehicle. Firefighters extricated the man, who was then taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Witnesses reported that a Mazda traveling west on S.R. 520 collided with a vehicle heading north on Blake Avenue. The impact severely damaged the victim’s vehicle, trapping him inside.

High traffic volumes during the morning rush hour led to significant delays while the scene was being processed.

Several witnesses at the scene reported that the Mazda driver was using a cell phone at the time of the crash.

Although the crash is believed to have resulted from distracted driving, authorities have not yet released official findings from the ongoing investigation.
