Beijing reacted sharply to new U.S. steps against Chinese tech companies, calling them an “extremely malicious” move and noting that it could heighten tensions in the technology race between the two countries. Official circles warn that such pressure harms global trade and investment in innovation.
The new U.S. policy expands export controls to subsidiary structures: any subsidiary that owns at least 50% of the shares of a company already on the export-control list falls under the same restrictions. Such a move could affect thousands of companies in high-tech supply chains.
Beijing’s Reaction
«In response, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC called this move ‘extremely malicious’, adding that the country ‘will take the necessary measures’ to protect the rights and interests of its companies.»
In response, Washington noted that the new measures address significant gaps and prevent circumvention of restrictions through subsidiaries. U.S. officials explain that the changes will affect thousands of companies around the world involved in producing advanced technologies.

The changes also affect the so-called “Military End-User” list to prevent the use of dual-use in military applications. U.S. counterpolicies are aimed at regulating exports in key areas – artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced robotic systems and related manufacturing tools.
Economic and technological diplomacy between Washington and Beijing is intensifying, especially on the eve of the expected meeting between U.S. and Chinese leaders on the sidelines of the APEC summit in South Korea. There, the parties will discuss technological competition, security, and pathways for cooperation in innovation fields.
