Borussia Dortmund fear captain Emré Can has suffered season-ending injury

Borussia Dortmund remain very concerned that captain Emré Can might have suffered a potential season ending injury in Saturday evening’s Bundesliga “Top Spiel” against FC Bayern Munich. Niko Kovac’s BVB might have not only lost the match and any hopes of chasing the title, but their skipper as well. Can had to be subbed off in first half injury time after problems with his knee left him unable to continue.

Emré Can had only just returned to action

Kovac was excited to welcome Can back ahead of Wednesday evening’s Champions League fixture against Atalanta Bergamo, but it regrettably became apparent almost immediately that the 32-year-old’s return had been improperly rushed. Thrust immediately back into the starting XI after sitting out the entire month of February, Can and his BVB back-three colleagues Waldemar Anton and Ramy Bensebaini had a nightmare match in the UCL loss.

Kovac’s statement on Can

I don’t want to say too much, but the doctor doesn’t have a good feeling,” Kovac told Sky Germany after Saturday evening’s defeat. “The initial examinations are not entirely positive. He [Can] also heard something. He then continued playing even after initially [hurting] himself. They [the medical staff] wanted to examine him, but he said: ‘I’m going to carry on’ Then, of course, as a doctor, you can’t say anything.
