ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – The Junior League of Albany hosted an event with the goal of teaching children and their parents about making healthy lifestyle choices.
“Kids in the Kitchen” was held on Feb. 22 in the Albany Mall.
There were stations available for families to visit throughout the mall. One station was a cooking class which demonstrated how to make easy, healthy snacks. Another station focused on body positivity and the importance of exercise. One station even showed children how to plant vegetable seeds in a garden.
“I think our community really does need to support the youth — Help them to make good choices,” said Cat Saunders, one of the organizers of the event. “It’s really easy for parents to sometimes pick unhealthy options. But I think we can all come together to promote healthy eating and exercise.”
People who came out to the event said it was a pleasant surprise to see the mall so busy. Some parents said Albany does not often have many events that cater to the youth. They said they were happy the Junior League hosted such a unique, beneficial and free event that was made available to all families in the area.
“The mall has not been having a lot of things lately, but this is so great to see everyone come out with their kids and grandkids today,” Christy Walker, who attended the event.
Due to the success of this event and the positive feedback from the community, the Junior League of Albany says they look forward to hosting similar events in the future.
