A $79 capsule and pod coffee machine from Aldi has been named the best according to new research by Canstar.
The supermarket’s Expressi machine beat out Nespresso’s DeLonghi and Breville versions to take the top spot on the consumer group’s 2026 Most Satisfied Customers Award.
Canstar spokesperson Eden Radford told Yahoo Lifestyle that home coffee machines are extremely popular at the moment as Aussies look to save money on their daily caffeine hit.

(Getty/Aldi)“With the average cafe coffee creeping close to $6, making coffee at home has shifted from a quick morning convenience into a major cost-saving strategy,” she said.
Canstar surveyed 260 Aussies who purchased coffee machines over the last three years to determine which one is the best.
They were asked to judge the appliance based on value for money, consistency, reliability and durability, ease of use, design, ease of cleaning, features and functionality, and pod availability and range.

The Expressi machine received perfect five-star ratings across nearly every category, but fell short in three.
It received four stars for consistency and coffee quality, and just two stars for design and pod range or availability.
The affordable machine also took home the top spot in 2022 and 2024.

The Nespresso DeLonghi machine came in second place, followed by the Nespresso Breville machine.
This comes as a surprise, since Nespresso, DeLonghi, and Breville are considered high-quality brands with prices ranging from $159 to $1,499.
The model at the end of that range is the Breville Creatista Pro, and it’s a sleek, beautiful-looking machine.
It has all the bells and whistles, including a milk frother and a touch-display menu that can make a range of different types of coffee.

(Breville/Aldi)But those on a budget might prefer Aldi’s machine, which is 19 times cheaper and still pulls a decent brew.
Not only did the machine take out the top prize in Canstar’s research, but a separate poll declared the supermarket had the best coffee pods, beans, and instant mixes in the country.
“Aldi’s clean sweep across beans, pods, and instant coffee proves that budget-friendly doesn’t mean compromising on quality,” Eden said.
“While value for money and taste dominated customer satisfaction for pods and instant coffee, our analysis shows bean drinkers prioritised roast accuracy above all else.”
