U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to welcome his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Washington for their second meeting this year. The safety of artificial intelligence is expected to be a hot topic, after U.S. industry leaders issued dire warnings and called for a development slowdown that China suspects is meant to contain its rise.

India’s largest bourse, the National Stock Exchange (NSE), is set to start trading publicly after the country’s second-largest primary offering ever. The NSE will list its shares on its 151-year-old rival, the Bombay Stock Exchange — which it has overshadowed through a mix of technological advancements such as fully electronic trading — as it is not allowed to list its own shares.

To Lam visits North America

Vietnamese President and Communist Party boss To Lam will use his New York trip for the United Nations General Assembly as a chance to hold talks with the U.S. and travel to Canada for a state visit. The trip, which runs through Friday, comes as both Canada and Vietnam grapple with trade tensions with the U.S., which aims to sell more goods to the two countries.

FTSE promotes Vietnam to emerging-market status

Vietnam’s stock market is set for a FTSE Russell upgrade, capping a yearslong effort to meet the index provider’s criteria and opening the door to billions of dollars from global investors. The money is expected to help finance infrastructure and other needs as analysts look for signs that the country’s economy will open further.

U.N. General Assembly debate begins

World leaders will give speeches at the U.N. in New York as part of the General Assembly’s General Debate, which ends Sept. 28. This year’s theme is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.” Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will preside over a session overshadowed by conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

ADB Asian Development Outlook

The Asian Development Bank is set to release its quarterly economic forecast as the effects of the Iran energy shock and El Nino continue to shape the global economy. The multilateral lender’s flagship Asian Development Outlook will present updated forecasts and assess how various economies in Asia are navigating these challenges.

International online scamming conference in Cambodia

Cambodia will host the two-day International Conference on Combating Online Scams in Phnom Penh in conjunction with Interpol and U.N. agencies. The meeting, whose theme is “Acting together towards breaking the chain and eradication of online scams,” will bring together people from governments, international organizations, law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, technology companies and academia.

Indonesia monetary policy

Since the Bank of Indonesia welcomed new Gov. Destry Damayanti last month, market confidence in Indonesia has gradually recovered. Following the sudden replacement of the finance minister last week, there is a growing view that the government is becoming more willing to respect the central bank’s independence. Expectations for stability in monetary policy are rising.

Trump-Xi summit

Xi is expected to arrive in Washington on Wednesday, before attending a summit with Trump and official banquet on Thursday. The planned visit comes as the rival superpowers aim to maintain a trade truce after months of sparring over tariffs, technology restrictions and other friction points.

National Stock Exchange of India listing

The NSE is expected to make its market debut after completing an initial public offering worth 225.62 billion rupees ($2.3 billion). The IPO will only constitute an offer for sale, with no new shares being issued by the company, which has become the driving force behind one of the largest and most active equity markets in the world.
