Marvel Studios have altered several elements of its 2019 blockbuster for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame Encore theatrical run. The first official trailer confirms visual enhancements and a bit of a change that fans have already spotted online.
The re-release hits theaters on Friday, September 25, with an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday attached. Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings will carry the bonus content. But the core film itself has got noticeable tweaks. Side-by-side comparisons between Avengers: Endgame Encore’s trailer and the Disney+ version reveal a big change in color grading.
Thanos leading his armies now appears with deeper contrast and richer saturation. The Mad Titan looks visibly more purple, matching his comic book appearance more closely than the washed-out tones from the original theatrical cut. This change targets a common complaint about the Russo Brothers’ Marvel work.
Critics often described Endgame’s palette as flat and muddy, leaning too heavily on browns and grays. The final battle looked particularly dreary once the portal light faded. While the Russos defended their muted approach in Captain America: Civil War as an intentional nod to moral ambiguity, many viewers welcomed a brighter, punchier look for Endgame.
Marvel also tweaked one of Tony Stark’s famous lines. The original dialogue ran, “When you mess with time, it tends to mess back.” Avengers: Endgame Encore version now says, “When you mess with time, time tends to mess back.” The change is small but shifts emphasis onto time itself. Fans speculate this line will carry weight in Avengers: Doomsday, where temporal consequences and incursions drive the plot.
It remains unclear whether every apparent difference stems from actual movie changes or from trailer compression artifacts. Disney has not released an official breakdown of edits. Viewers will need to see the theatrical release to confirm the full scope.
All in all, the re-release also includes roughly four minutes of additional footage, so audiences should not expect substantial new scenes. A custom introduction and a special end tag will accompany Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings.
