Bayern Munich did not become Bayern Munich, the team that has won multiple Champions League titles and dominates German football, without raising the standards to the moon. In this day and age, the club dominates and wins most of the matches it plays. But if there is a loss, it is met with alarm bells, drama, and general mayhem as everyone goes nuts. Bayern utterly despises losing. It has become a core part of the club’s identity.
Which makes a player like goalkeeper Jonas Urbig a perfect fit for the Bavarians.
“I hate conceding goals. And I hate losing,” the former 1. FC Köln goalkeeper confided to Bayern’s club magazine Säbener51 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Even in training, I want to save every shot, block every effort and win every practice game. I’m certainly not the only one like that at FC Bayern, that’s exactly what makes this club what it is.”
Bayern’s current No. 1, Manuel Neuer, clearly embodies the same burning hatred for defeat. It is good to know that somebody with the same mentality is waiting in the wings for when the legendary goalkeeper does decide to call it quits.
