WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – It’s an epic battle here at Loeb Stadium as Lafayette’s favorite celebrities go head-to-head.
It’s an event put on by Joyful Journey of West Lafayette.
Joyful Journey is a nonprofit adult day center.
The organization focuses on social connection and physical activity to help adults experiencing changes in mobility or cognition.
Besswit Cosky, the Executive Director of Joyful Journey said, “Growing older is harder, right? It gets tough, so this is a way where we can start a conversation about what aging looks like and what options are out there. We want to make sure that folks are not just existing in their older ages but that they’re really living life.”
The event featured a home run derby where folks could step up to the plate and test their home run count in two minutes.
Following this was the celebrity game where the Wooligans battled the Blues Batters.
News 18’s Chief Meteorologist Chris Swaim participated in this game.
He had one goal in mind prior to the showdown.
“I mean my goal is to get out there and not embarrass myself. Just as long as I walk away with the shred of dignity I still have, then I feel good about what I did”, Swaim said.
The best part is that every cheer, every swing, and every donation helps ensure that all families have access to quality adult day services.
“I mean look around, like everyone gathering and being here for this, for a great cause. I mean we’re happy to put our weight behind it and to support a cause like Joyful Journey, so this is awesome. I’m happy to be invited here and to be considered a celebrity in this community. I know I’m new here, but I’ve been welcomed with open arms and I really appreciate that.”
With many highlight plays from both sides, the Blues Batters ended up defeating the Wooligans 14-12 in one that came right down to the end.
The celebrity game will make its return at this time next year.
