‘Just Not Right’: AMC Theatres Addresses Website Crash During Dune: Part Three Ticket Sales

AMC Theatres CEO addressed the website’s crash during the Dune: Part Three ticket sales in a statement. The CEO, Adam Aron, took to his X account to post his apology, along with the status of the issue and further instructions for customers.

In his post, the CEO started his apology by stating, “We try so hard to be experts in what we usually do so well, devoted as we are to pleasing hundreds of millions of guests in our theatres each year.”

However, since Dune 3 tickets went on sale on Tuesday, August 18, the website crashed, leaving many customers with incomplete purchases. The CEO also acknowledged that they had experienced high demand during ticket sales before, like for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey. However, the traffic on AMC’s website and mobile app was three times higher for Dune: Part Three.

Aron added, “It’s not that our systems totally failed. We have been selling enormous numbers of tickets today, but when any of our customers experience less than our best, it is just not right.”

“It’s a high-class problem to have such staggering demand, but even so, it is intolerable and inexcusable,” he continued. “It just can not and should not happen, because as AMC is the clear market leader, you deserve better from us. There was much discussion internally ahead of preparing for the Dune 3 launch. We thought we were ready, but we weren’t.”

Furthermore, the CEO ensured that the $2 million in IT programming resources needed to fully address the issue had been approved. Moreover, the IT team is taking steps for the ticketing systems to be “top shelf.”

As further instructions, he advised customers who are still experiencing delays or intermittent issues to retry the purchase. The statement concluded with the CEO showing gratitude and appreciation for the enthusiasm among moviegoers for “one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year.”
