Mexico’s U-20 national team is enjoying a perfect start at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, and one of its brightest young talents is already attracting attention from Europe.
After a dominant win over Guatemala in the final group-stage match, El Tri sealed a perfect record in the opening phase of the tournament, increasing the spotlight on several players expected to have promising futures.
Among them is Chivas winger Hugo Camberos, whose performances have reportedly caught the eye of two of England’s biggest clubs.
Arsenal and Tottenham send scouts to watch Camberos
According to TUDN reporter Zaritzi Sosa, scouts from Arsenal and Tottenham were among those in attendance at Estadio Cuauhtémoc to watch Mexico’s victory over Guatemala.
The two Premier League clubs are members of England’s so-called “Big Six.” Arsenal are the reigning Premier League champions and UEFA Champions League finalists, making their interest in young talent particularly notable.
Their presence was reportedly linked directly to Camberos, a player who has already been on the radar of European clubs.
A year ago, Belgian side Club Brugge showed serious interest in signing the teenager, although disagreements between the two clubs’ front offices ultimately prevented a deal from being completed.
Camberos has been Mexico’s standout player
The Chivas academy product has been one of Mexico’s most influential players at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, where El Tri are aiming to qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the men’s soccer tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Camberos made an immediate impact in the tournament opener against Antigua and Barbuda, converting a penalty for Mexico’s first goal of the competition while also providing an assist.
He scored another penalty against Costa Rica before finding the net again in the win over Guatemala, continuing his impressive run in front of goal.
The winger’s performances have made him one of the most closely watched players in Mexico’s squad and could increase speculation about a possible move to Europe in the future.
Mexico await next opponent in Concacaf U-20 Championship
Mexico, coached by Álex Diego, are now waiting to discover their opponent in the next phase of the tournament.
The final group-stage matches must still be completed before the knockout rounds are confirmed. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance.
Concacaf will then rank the eight qualified teams based on their performances during the group stage before determining the next round’s matchups.
