Suri Cruise appears to be charting her own course as she steps into adulthood. Tom Cruise’s 20-year-old daughter seemingly has taken the same path as Brad Pitt’s children. She has reportedly chosen to step away from her father’s famous surname.
Tom Cruise’s daughter Suri legally drops his last name
Suri, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally moved away from her dad’s last name. The former couple welcomed their daughter Suri in April 2006, married later that year in November, and parted ways in 2012.
Voter records reviewed by PEOPLE show that the theater student has changed her surname to Noelle. As Page Six first reported, she drew attention in June 2024 for omitting the “Top Gun” actor’s surname from the LaGuardia High School graduation program.
Two months later, Holmes spoke publicly about Suri in a rare interview with Town & Country to celebrate her daughter’s milestone. Holmes said, “I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her, and I’m happy,” the proud mom told the outlet, adding, “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
Additionally, during her freshman year in October 2024, Suri registered to vote in Allegheny County under the last name Noelle. According to a Page Six source, Suri was “showing praise for her mother” by taking on Noelle for such a meaningful change. The insider added that she hoped to “avoid the paparazzi,” build her “own identity”, and “start fresh at college.” Before moving to Pennsylvania, she lived with Holmes in New York.
Currently, Suri is at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh pursuing musical theater. She reportedly first discovered her love for acting in high school after landing the lead role of Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family: A New Musical.”
