Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have already arrived, but a new centre-forward remains very much at the top of the agenda.
Meanwhile, thoughts have also been given to the possibility of signing a new centre-back, especially if one of the current players were to leave.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero, to that end, has emerged as one of the players that Barça have their sights set on.
Barcelona appreciate Romero, but salary concerns
Now, according to journalist Santi Ovalle on Cadena SER, Barcelona really value Romero as a player.
However, a move is made unlikely by the fact that the Argentine international is on a high salary that would not fit into the Catalans’ current wage scale.
Romero is set to leave Tottenham this summer, with an exit all but given at this point. An experienced player in his prime, the South American’s profile is regarded highly at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Wages, though, are seen as a concern, given that the Blaugrana are operating on a strict salary space and would not want to face further complications with the La Liga Financial Fair Play rule.
Romero headed to Inter Milan?
Therefore, as things stand, a move for Romero from Barcelona seems extremely unlikely.
The Argentine, as such, could be on his way to Inter Milan, with the Serie A champions keen on adding the defender to their ranks this summer.
Barça’s centre-back situation
As for Barcelona, Hansi Flick will continue to count on Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin as his preferred starting centre-back partnership.
Eric Garcia will also be called upon when needed, while the manager also rates Andreas Christensen highly and played an important role in his renewal.
Ronald Araujo, meanwhile, has no plans of leaving the club despite the possibility of him not playing regularly given the competition for places in the squad.
Alvaro Cortes, who made his first-team debut late last season, will also be an option for the manager.
