The Hollywood star wattage continued to shine bright at Comic-Con on Saturday, the third full day of the annual pop culture extravaganza.
Apple TV+ led the way earlier in the day with an army of stars walking down the red carpet at Hilton San Diego Bayfront, where the streaming service promoted its upcoming shows and films, including “Widow’s Bay,” “Matchbox The Movie,” “Dark Matter” season two, “Mayday” and “Silo” season three.
Here’s a peek at some of the celebrities spotted Saturday at Comic-Con.
Jessica Biel
“Matchbox: The Movie” brought out its biggest stars Saturday for a press event at Hilton San Diego Bayfront at noon before herding the cast to the San Diego Convention Center for Apple TV+’s first-ever panel in Hall H, which for a few days literally is the center of the pop-culture universe. The upcoming action comedy — directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall — is based on the Mattel toy brand Matchbox. Starring Biel, John Cena, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro and Teyonah Parris, the film is expected to be released Oct. 6.
John Cena
Not too far from Biel was “Matchbox: The Movie” star John Cena, who plays the film’s lead character, Sean. He’s an ex-soldier who reconnects with childhood friends before he’s kidnapped. Cena walked the red carpet with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh. Earlier in the week, Cena was spotted checking out the sights and sounds of the Gaslamp Quarter right outside the convention center.
Jerry O’Connell
Actor Jerry O’Connell, the voice of Commander Jack Ransom on the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks” appeared in Hall H as part of Paramount+’s huge “Star Trek” extravaganza, where other stars from throughout the franchise reminisced about the show and its historic 60-year anniversary.
Tim Robbins
Veteran actor Tim Robbins appeared on the red carpet as part of the media blitz for “Silo,” the dystopian drama that’s now in its third season. The Academy Award-winning Robbins — who won the best supporting actor Oscar in 2004 for “Mystic River” — portrays Bernard Holland, the stern head of the IT department in the Silo.
Alexandria Riley and Common
Besides Robbins, the “Silo” contingent was definitely brimming with A-listers. Check out Common, who walked the red carpet with co-star Alexandria Riley. They play power couple Camille and Robert Sims in the Apple TV+ drama. On Thursday, Common surprised fans with a performance at The Silo Experience activation outside the convention center. “Thank the Founders,” Apple TV touted on its Instagram account on Saturday, a sly reference to the mysterious group of leaders and scientists known as The Founders.
Alan Ritchson
Jack Reacher came ready for his close-up Saturday, stopping by the Associated Press photo booth for some portraits. Actor Alan Ritchson, who will be back Aug. 12 as Jack Reacher on Prime Video’s “Reacher,” was at Comic-Con to promote the series’ fourth season as well as its spinoff, “Neagley,” set for a Sept. 16 launch, also on Prime Video.
Jennifer Connelly
High-wattage Hollywood star Jennifer Connelly dropped by the Apple TV+ red carpet as part of the “Dark Matter” junket. The sci-fi series’ second season premieres Aug. 28. The Academy Award-winning actress — who took home the best supporting actress trophy for 2001’s “A Beautiful Mind” — portrays Daniela in “Dark Matter.” Since 2015, she has been an ambassador for the French fashion house Louis Vuitton, and based on the classic look she brought to the red carpet Saturday, Connelly may have been wearing an LV original.
Jeff Hiller
Emmy winner Jeff Hiller — winner of the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series award last year for “Somebody Somewhere” — joined fellow castmates at Comic-Con for “Widow’s Bay,” the original comedy horror series led by Matthew Rhys.
Michelle Hurd and George Takei
“Star Trek” was the focus of a panel Saturday, and stars from the series’ various incarnations came out en masse, including Michelle Hurd (“Star Trek: Picard”) and none other than Sulu himself — George Takei, one of the most well-known faces of the “Star Trek” franchise. The fourth season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” premiered this week on Paramount+.
Kingston Rumi Southwick
The 18-year-old actor Kingston Rumi Southwick — Evan Loftis in the Apple TV+ comedy-horror series “Widow’s Bay” — walked the red carpet as part of the streaming network’s media blitz Saturday. His character is the son of Mayor Tom Loftis, portrayed by Matthew Rhys.
Dayo Okeniyi
Nigerian American actor Dayo Okeniyi, known for his breakout role in 2012’s “The Hunger Games,” joined fellow castmates Saturday to promote season 2 of “Dark Matter,” the sci-fi thriller led by stars Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly. The new season drops on Apple TV+ on Aug. 28.
Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck
Besides Jerry O’Connell, Michelle Hurd and George Takei, Paramount+’s massive “Star Trek” panel brought many other stars from the franchise. Anson Mount — aka Capt. Christopher Pike in “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” — sat next to Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck during the 90-minute panel in Hall H celebrating the franchise’s 60th anniversary.
