Football: Germany Appoint Jurgen Klopp as Coach Until 2030
Berlin, July 24 (QNA) – The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as the new head coach of the senior national team, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who left the role following Germany’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking at a press conference in Frankfurt, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said the association was delighted to introduce Jurgen Klopp as the new head coach of the German national team.
He added that Klopp had signed a contract running until the summer of 2030, covering the next FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to be hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. He also said Klopp would officially begin his duties on Aug. 15.
Nagelsmann’s tenure ended after Germany’s surprise elimination in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, where the team lost 4-3 on penalties to Paraguay after the match ended 1-1 following extra time.
The defeat extended Germany’s disappointing run at recent World Cups, having also been eliminated in the group stage in 2018 and 2022. Germany’s most recent World Cup triumph came in 2014.
Nagelsmann had previously expressed his desire to remain in charge of the national team until 2028, but he later reached an agreement with the German Football Association to end their partnership just days after the squad returned home.
Klopp is regarded as one of Germany’s most accomplished coaches in recent years. He led Borussia Dortmund to Bundesliga and German Cup titles before managing Liverpool from 2015 to 2024, where he guided the club to several major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League title.
