J.K. Simmons has shared an unexpected behind-the-scenes detail from his time in the Spider-Man franchise. Although he reprised his role as J. J.K. Simmons and Tom Holland made two Spider-Man movies without even meeting
J.K. Simmons has revealed that he and Tom Holland have never met, even though both appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor shared the surprising detail during a recent interview, reflecting on his time in the Marvel franchise.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked Simmons whether he had ever shared a scene with Holland. Simmons replied that he had never met the actor, adding “No. Delightful guy, I’m told.” Laughing at the situation, Horowitz added, “I’ve spent more time with Tom Holland than you. This is wrong,” to which Simmons responded, “Yeah, it is. It totally is. Yeah.”
The conversation also turned to Simmons’ unexpected return as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The actor said the opportunity came together at the last minute, describing it as “a very last-minute decision.”
He recalled that Marvel contacted his agent while the film was already being edited. “They literally called my agent, we had a meeting the next day, and it was like a day or two later [that] I was shooting in somebody’s office,” Simmons said. He added that the scene was filmed in “some executive’s office on the lot” because “there was no set.”
Although Simmons has reprised the role in recent Spider-Man films, he has denied being involved in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Addressing online speculation in a previous interview with ComicBook, the actor said, “Not in it, dude.”
Brand New Day is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 31, 2026.
