John Travolta is back as Mason Goddard in The Gentleman Thief, releasing later this year. The film will be the third entry in Travolta’s action franchise. Previously, Travolta played Mason Goddard in Cash Out and High Rollers, the latter of which was released in 2025.
The film’s synopsis reads, “Master thief Mason Goddard (John Travolta) is lured out of retirement to steal an invaluable painting during an international art auction. He soon finds himself in an intricate, deadly trap set by a ruthless criminal kingpin hellbent on revenge. Unless he can pull off the most ingenious heist of his career, it’s game over for Mason and his ragtag crew of thieves. Along the way, Mason finds a chance at true love – but only if he can make it to the getaway alive…”

What do we see in The Gentleman Thief trailer?
The trailer starts with Travolta’s Goddard asking Rebecca De Mornay’s character if she misses being one of the world’s greatest art thieves. Goddard is then seen playing chess with his brother, played by Lukas Haas, who asks him to come out of retirement to go back to stealing. Both of them take a vacation to Miami, welcomed by DJ Khaled’s unnamed character.
It doesn’t take long for Goddard to figure out that he has been brought there to perform another art heist. The target is a painting worth $100 million stored on a mobile yacht. The rest of the footage shows brief glimpses of various action sequences across land and sea.
The stars are John Travolta, Lukas Haas, Rebecca De Mornay, Sam Asghari, Quavo, and DJ Khaled. It is directed by Randall Emmett, who also produces the film alongside Joel Cohen. Rick Moore, Jas Mathur, Jake Brander, Henry Winterstern, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, Daniel M’Causland, and CC Waknine serve as executive producers. The film’s North American rights have been acquired by Vertical.
The Gentleman Thief releases on digital and VOD on July 28, 2026. It will also get a limited theatrical release on July 31, 2026.
