Equinix has officially opened HK6, its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in the city, a purpose-built facility designed to meet the power density, thermal efficiency and operational resilience required for AI innovations.
With an initial investment of US$124million, HK6 provides 1,000 cabinets in its first phase and is expected to scale to 3,550 cabinets at full build-out.
The launch aligns with the Hong Kong government’s push to advance the city’s technology and AI agenda, including the development of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP) as a cross-border launchpad for innovation.
Interconnected with Equinix’s existing campus and HSITP, HK6 enables secure access to tenants and startups across GBA, fostering co-development opportunities and accelerating research and development.
Through the recently announced AI Discovery Hub with HPE and NVIDIA, HK6 offers an open testing environment where enterprises and startups can securely build, test, validate and scale AI applications across a neutral, efficient hybrid and multicloud environments.
Enterprises can assess the performance and compatibility of their workflows under real-world conditions before full-scale deployment, de-risking AI investment and reducing time to market.
In Hong Kong, Equinix operates a highly interconnected network of six IBX data centers, strategically distributed across key locations to support performance, resilience and ecosystem density.
At the heart of this footprint is a carrier-dense and ecosystem-rich campus anchored by the Equinix Internet Exchange and Equinix Internet Access in Tsuen Wan, where HK1, HK2, HK3 and HK6 are closely clustered to enable high-speed, low-latency interconnection among networks, cloud and AI service providers and enterprises.
These facilities form a distributed yet tightly integrated network that supports mission-critical workloads, hybrid multicloud architectures, and the growing demands of AI-driven applications, while complying with sovereignty requirements.
