It’s the last day of Amazon’s Prime Day, and the Technivorm Moccamaster is still on sale. As is always the case when I see it marked-down during this event, I think it’s one of the smartest items you can buy. In case you’re unfamiliar, this is both a premium and dead-simple coffee maker. You fill the basket with grounds and click a single button. Still, it’s widely and enthusiastically recommended by many coffee professionals because of its stable temperature control and even brewing — not always what you’ll find with electric machines.
Suyog Mody, founder of Driftaway Coffee, says it’s “made with better parts and solid construction,” which is what gives it the edge. Jim Munson, founder and president of Brooklyn Roasting Company, and Ally Walsh, co-founder of Los Angeles’s Canyon Coffee, both think it produces a perfectly smooth and balanced cup. Even Bill Nye, the Science Guy, makes his coffee in this thing.
Then there’s the Moccamaster’s cool, rather retro look, making it worthy of sitting out on a countertop. It comes in a myriad of great colors: neutrals like black, white, silver, and sandstone as well as fun options like juniper green, butter yellow, and a bright red and orange. Some are slightly more marked down than others (the 35 percent off you see below is the highest discount), but all are on sale.
