Equipment failure triggers delays of up to 15 minutes along Tseung Kwan O MTR line

A signalling equipment failure near a station along Hong Kong’s Tseung Kwan O MTR line has resulted in travel delays of 10 to 15 minutes during the Thursday evening rush hour, with passengers saying they were asked to get off their train.

“Due to a signalling equipment fault near Po Lam station, the total journey time between North Point station and Po Lam or Lohas Park stations could be extended by 10 to 15 minutes,” the MTR Corporation said on its mobile app at about 6.30pm.

A commuter, who gave her surname as Kwok, said she had been on her way to Hang Hau when she and her fellow passengers were asked at around 6.20pm to leave the train after it stopped at Tseung Kwan O station for about 10 minutes.

She added that an announcement on the train had initially mentioned a five-minute delay.

“It is a blessing in disguise that I have arrived at Tseung Kwan O station. I plan to walk home for about half an hour,” she said.
