Disney just dropped the first look at the 5th Descendants film, revealing its release date. The new trailer for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland also unveils returning stars, new cast additions, and a fresh batch of villain kids joining the adventure.
What to know about Descendants 5 ahead of its July premiere
Disney Channel’s Descendants franchise returns with its fifth film, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland. The movie premieres on July 16 on Disney Channel before streaming on Disney+ the next day. Walt Disney Records drops the original soundtrack on July 17 alongside the streaming debut.
The story picks up after Red and Chloe’s time-traveling escapades in Descendants: The Rise of Red. Both heroes hide a dangerous pocket watch inside the Royal Vault for safekeeping. Meanwhile, Maddox Hatter lurks in the shadows as a ruthless new villain seeking that very artifact.
The official logline sets up the central conflict. “Now that the Queen of Hearts is nice and Cinderella is safe, things seem perfect for Red and Chloe… But little do they know that changing the past created a new villain – Maddox Hatter,” it reads. “When Maddox captures the Queen of Hearts, Red and Chloe must work with a team of new allies. Together, they fight to rescue the Queen and save all of Wonderland from destruction.”
Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker return as Red and Chloe to lead the cast. Leonardo Nam steps into a larger role as the antagonist Maddox Hatter this time. Rita Ora, Brandy, Melanie Paxson and Paolo Montalban reprise their respective franchise roles. Additionally, Awkwafina joins the project to voice Chessy the Cat.
Fresh faces bring new characters into the Descendants universe as well. Liamani Segura portrays Pink, while Alexandro Byrd takes on Luis Madrigal. Brendon Tremblay plays Max Hatter and Kiara Romero stars as Hazel Hook. Joel Oulette, Zavien Garrett, Ryan McEwen and Dayton Paradis complete the new lineup.
Kimmy Gatewood directs a script penned by Tamara Chestna alongside Dan Frey and Ru Sommer. Executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh return to oversee the franchise’s latest chapter. Emmy-winning choreographer Emilio Dosal crafts the brand-new music-and-dance sequences for the film.
