In a move to strengthen tourism and bilateral relations, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan have agreed to begin detailed discussions on a mutual visa-free travel arrangement. Once implemented, this agreement will allow travellers from both sides to stay at the destination for up to 30 days without requiring a visa.

How will this visa-free agreement benefit travellers?

According to a China Daily report, this development was announced during Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s visit to Tashkent on June 3, 2026, where he met Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. Representatives from both governments exchanged diplomatic notes confirming their intention to advance the arrangement.

The proposed arrangement would simplify procedures and provide equal visa-free access of up to 30 days for eligible travellers from both sides.

According to the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan have agreed to launch direct flights between Hong Kong and Tashkent as part of efforts to strengthen connectivity and deepen economic ties. The decision was announced alongside discussions on a reciprocal 30-day visa-free travel arrangement, which is expected to facilitate tourism, business travel and cultural exchanges.
