Sydney Sweeney’s career just took a big turn behind the camera
Sydney Sweeney has launched Honey Trap, a new production company, Deadline reported.
Longtime creative collaborator Kaylee McGregor will serve as president of production and development. The company has secured a first-look deal with Sony Pictures. Sweeney previously starred in and executive-produced the sleeper hit Anyone But You at the studio. That Glen Powell starred romantic comedy grossed more than $210 million worldwide.
Sweeney also announced the news on Instagram, captioning a post, “sticking around @honeytrap.” Meanwhile, she already has several projects in development at Sony. She will star in TriStar Pictures’ remake of Barbarella, which Edgar Wright will direct. Additionally, she is attached to produce The Registration, based on Madison Lawson’s novel.
The actress recently starred alongside Amanda Seyfried in Lionsgate’s The Housemaid. That Paul Feig-directed adaptation grossed nearly $400 million at the global box office. She will reprise her role opposite Kirsten Dunst in the sequel The Housemaid’s Secret — Lionsgate plans to shoot the follow-up this fall.
Sweeney currently has multiple film projects in various stages of production. Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth is crafting a vehicle for her at Warner Bros. She also just wrapped Custom of the Country for StudioCanal with co-star Leo Woodall. Right now, she is shooting the Jim Mickle-directed Gundam in Australia for Legendary and Netflix.
“At Honey Trap, we believe the most unforgettable stories live in contradiction,” the company’s mission statement reads. “Our mission is to create bold, cinematic film and television that challenges perception, sparks conversation, and leaves a lasting emotional imprint.” Sweeney’s ambitions also include stepping into the director’s chair at Sony.
