Anna Kendrick is set to be in the director’s chair once again for Netflix‘s new movie. Following the massive success of Woman of the Hour, which was her directorial debut, the actress has now joined a brand new project, based on a famous novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Anna Kendrick will direct Netflix’s upcoming movie based on 2017’s New York Times bestselling novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, reports Deadline.
Kendrick is known for her performances in Pitch Perfect and A Simple Favor, but she also earned praise for directing Woman of the Hour. She also starred in the movie, which currently holds a solid Tomatometer score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. When it arrived on Netflix, the movie was No.1 on the Top 10 chart.

The upcoming film based on Jenkins Reid’s novel is being produced by Liza Chasin, Brad Mendelsohn, and David Hinojosa. Jenkins Reid, who has sold more than 24 million copies in over 43 languages, is serving as the executive producer. The author is widely known in the world of literature. Her books have been selected in the GMA Book Club, Reese’s Book Club, Read with Jenna, Indie Next, Best of Amazon, and Book of the Month.
As for the story of the upcoming movie, it follows a young journalist’s long-awaited interaction with Evelyn Hugo, an aging, popular actress. In the interview, Hugo makes startling revelations about Hollywood scandals and betrayals. She also ends up telling the truth about her own life. The first draft of the script was written by Liz Tigelaar, and Francesca Sloane is currently revising it before finalizing the script.
As for Kendrick, she’s been busy lately with acting gigs. Her most recent appearance was in 2025’s Another Simple Favor, a sequel to her 2018 hit film.
The movie adaptation of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo has yet to receive an official release date window.
