Bayer Leverkusen won just five of their final 13 Bundesliga game of 2025/26, which saw Kasper Hjulmand’s side finish the campaign sixth, behind VfB Stuttgart and Hoffenheim. It means that Bayer will not be playing Champions League football in the upcoming season and, should they find a successor, will part ways with the Dane, who replaced Erik ten Hag in September.
According to a report by Sky Germany, negotiations have taken place with Filipe Luís, who is the current favourite to become Leverkusen’s new head coach. There’s also a further two unnamed options, but the Brazilian appears the club’s number one priority.
Luís took charge of Flamengo in September 2024 and led the Brazilian side to a league title and the Copa Libertadores. However, the 40-year-old, who spent most of his playing years at Atlético Madrid, was dismissed in March of this year.
