Como 1907 is headed for European competition, and it will be in the top one, securing a Champions League place at the expense of Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus.
Milan scored early at the San Siro against Cagliari but conceded twice, falling 2-1 on the final day. That opened the door for Como to secure a top-four finish with a victory, which it secured against Cremonese, condemning the Lombardy squad to relegation.
That win means Como, managed by part-owner Cesc Fabregas, will play in the Champions League next season, while Christian Pulisic and Co. will fight for the Europa League.
Founded in 1907, Como experienced financial issues in the early 2000s and regrouped under new ownership in 2017. Fabregas joined the star-studded ownership group in 2022, and the club earned promotion to Serie A in 2023–24. Just two seasons later, with Fabregas managing the club, Como booked a place in Champions League competition.
Juventus also entered the final day with an eye on a return to the Champions League and had a slight advantage on its opponents after the start of the Turin derby was delayed due to fan clashes before the contest. That let Juve know what it would need in the second half to reach the Champions League places. However, the Como victory meant Juve would need eight more goals to overcome Fabregas’ side in the table, a gap too large for Juve to overcome.
Inter, who was confirmed as the champion several weeks ago, Napoli and AS Roma join Como as Italy’s entrants in the Champions League for 2026-27, while AC Milan and Juventus are headed to the Europa League. Atalanta finished in seventh to secure the Conference League place.
Pisa and Hellas Verona were relegated along with Cremonese, with Venezia and Frosinone promoted from Serie B along with the winner of the playoff between Monza and Catanzaro. Monza has the 2-0 edge after the first leg, with the second taking place May 29 at Monza’s U-Power Stadium.
