New box office predictions for The Amazing Digital Circus movie continue to impress, though footage of the much-anticipated finale to the popular YouTube series have already leaked online. Otherwise known as The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act (or TADC The Last Act), this theatrical release distributed by Fathom Entertainment combines the show’s most recent Episode 8 titled “hjsakldfhl” with the officially unreleased Episode 9 that runs for an hour, which is twice as long as the typical TADC entry. This cinematic conclusion to the fan-favorite animated show from Gooseworx, a pseudonym for Cooper Smith Goodwin, will release in theaters on Thursday, June 4, several weeks before Episode 9 comes out for free on June 19 on YouTube and Netflix.
TADC The Last Act gains momentum amid a packed theatrical calendar
As of May 22, The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act is predicted to earn $14.5 million, or more specifically in the range between $10 million and $17 million, in its domestic opening weekend from June 4 to June 7.
This new projection from analytics site BoxOfficeTheory is a notable improvement, nearly a 50% increase, over its prior prediction that the film would bring in only $10 million in its domestic start. To be fair, it previously noted that estimates for the finale were difficult to assess since it “was on virtually no industry radars until very recently.” BoxOffice Pro, which tends to use more traditional tracking methods for upcoming movies, predicted that TADC The Last Act would get somewhere between $8 million and $12 million in its May 15 report. This indicates that the momentum for the movie is growing as we head toward its debut.
This higher forecast is especially remarkable for how competitive the field is over the next month. Two blockbusters, Scary Movie 6 and Masters of the Universe, launch the day after TADC The Last Act does on June 5. While the movie has been strategically placed a few weeks before Toy Story 5 swallows all of the oxygen at the box office on July 19, it still needs to contend with The Mandalorian & Grogu, Backrooms, The Breadwinner, and Disclosure Day. Since the final episode of the series will air for free soon, the idea is that the movie will get in and get out quickly. Pre-sale tickets for the film began on April 10 and the pre-sale total has already reached $7.5 million in the US, which is a record for Fathom Entertainment, according to the distributor.
Unfortunately, leaked footage of the entire film in its Brazilian dub have emerged online in the past few days. The finale to the web series has faced controversy for not having a simultaneous release in theaters and on YouTube and Netflix, though this timed release schedule is crucial for bringing fans who would normally watch the series on the internet into seats at the cinema. That said, it doesn’t look like the leaks have hampered the movie’s box office predictions much.
Gooseworx responded to the leaks on BlueSky by writing “I haven’t seen what the leaks even are, but I’m gonna guess, probably not?” and a since-deleted post where she replies “Ehhh, who cares?” The animator later apologized on the platform, stating “I know people are upset with my response, which is fine, but I kind of just wanted to make a cartoon, & it’s ended up being way more trouble than it’s worth.” Given how much the series has blown up on YouTube, having garnered over 1 billion views across its eight episodes, Gooseworx admits that she “can’t keep my heart in this thing anymore” and that “it’s gotten too much bigger than me, & I probably shouldn’t be the figurehead of it.”
The theatrical release of TADC The Last Act comes paired with a special popcorn tub and souvenir cup that can be purchased in limited quantities at various major cinema chains, like Regal, AMC, and Cinemark.
