The White House recently shared a picture of Donald Trump as James Bond. This sparked a plethora of reactions, with Jimmy Kimmel, whose career the President has repeatedly targeted, being the latest to share his thoughts.

On the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host went through and critiqued recent developments in Donald Trump’s presidency. This included his state visit to China, the new name he coined for Democrats, and his administration’s communications team’s crazy social media posts.

Naturally, during the monologue, the White House’s AI-generated picture of Donald Trump as James Bond on social media was brought up. Kimmel remarked how they suggested the President will play the next cinematic iteration of the super spy. He quipped, “Grab ’em by the Octopussy, we got a new James Bond in town!”

Casting for Daniel Craig’s successor as James Bond is underway. Deadline reported last year that Denis Villeneuve, who will helm the next film about the super spy, and the creative team were eyeing “a fresh face” to step into the boots of 007. Despite this, names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Regé-Jean Page have been suggested by fans.

The comedian joked that 007 could be Trump’s current “approval rating.” He continued, “Imagine being a very unpopular president in the middle of a very unpopular war. The cost of everything is skyrocketing. Gas is very expensive, and you are spending your time posting online about how hot you are, how you captured an alien, and how you should be the next James Bond.”

Amazon MGM Studios confirmed in a statement that they will not share specifics during the casting process. However, they promised to offer more updates at the “right time.”

Steven Knight is writing the script for the film. It has no official release date, although reports suggest a 2028 premiere. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing through Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films. Meanwhile, Tanya Lapointe, Villeneuve’s wife and producing partner, with whom he collaborated on the Dune films, is executive producing.
