Tom Kane, one of the most prolific voice actors of his generation, passed away at the age of 64. With a huge collection of iconic works, Kane made his mark on several prominent franchises across the industry.
Kane is best known for his roles in the Star Wars franchise. He voiced major characters like Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Boba Fett, Qui-Gon Jinn, and C-3PO. Apart from the iconic George Lucas franchise, Kane voiced Professor Utonium in The Powerpuff Girls, Darwin in The Wild Thornberrys, Mr. Herriman in Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and Woodhouse in Archer.
The voice actor passed away from stroke complications at a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. His talent agency, Galactic Productions, announced the passing.
“From his unforgettable performances in Star Wars to countless animated series, documentaries, and games, Tom brought wisdom, strength, humor, and heart to every role he touched,” the agency said in a statement (via THR), “His voice became part of our lives, our memories, and the stories we carry with us.”
Kane suffered from a stroke in 2020. This left him unable to speak or write. He retired the following year. He attended the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention in Kentucky in March, marking a rare public appearance.
Born in Overland Park, Kansas, Thomas Kane Roberts started voice acting when he was 15. Kane began his career working at Lucasfilm, handling miscellaneous small voice parts for its video games. Soon, he extended his roles to television and films.
He remains one of the most iconic voices in Hollywood over the past decades.
