Margot Robbie & Tobey Maguire’s R-Rated Movie Is Leaving Netflix

A 2022 period drama starring Margot Robbie and Tobey Maguire will exit Netflix’s content library next month. The R-rated film is written and directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Damien Chazelle, known for titles like La La Land, Whiplash, and First Man.

Margot Robbie’s Babylon is leaving Netflix next month

Babylon will be dropped from Netflix’s catalog on Sunday, June 7, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

The film begins in the 1920s, when Hollywood was gradually transitioning from silent films to sound cinema. It follows Manny Torres, an ambitious immigrant; Nellie LaRoy, a self-destructive actress; and Jack Conrad, a silent-film star struggling to adapt to changing times. As Hollywood evolves, these characters experience the rise and fall of their careers.

Babylon’s cast features Margot Robbie as Nellie, Tobey Maguire as James, Brad Pitt as Jack, Diego Calva as Manny, Jean Smart as Elinor, Li Jun Li as Lady Fay, and P. J. Byrne as Max, among others.

Paramount Pictures distributed Babylon worldwide, releasing it on December 23, 2022. The studio initially planned to release the film in December 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release was delayed by a year.

Despite strong performances from its ensemble cast and direction by an acclaimed filmmaker, Babylon failed to make its mark in the industry. Based on ratings from over 350 critics, the film holds an approval rating of 57% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, the users’ score is a little lower at 52%. On Metacritic, however, the scores are higher. The critics’ weighted-average score, based on 63 critics, is 61 out of 100, and the users’ score stands at 7 out of 10.

Babylon didn’t experience a commercial success either. Made on a reported $80 million budget, it made roughly $65.2 million from the global box office. However, the following year, at the 2023 Oscars, the film received three nominations.
