After nearly two decades at Grey Sloan Memorial, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are stepping away from Grey’s Anatomy.
The Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale, Bridge Over Troubled Water, aired on May 7, 2026, and brought a long-awaited resolution for McKidd’s Owen Hunt and Raver’s Teddy Altman, two of the series’ most complex characters.
As the penultimate episode teased, the bridge collapse left Owen facing death but the reprieve came quickly. Trapped in a sinking car, the former Army surgeon relied on training and instinct. With water rushing in, he grabbed a keychain window-breaker, smashed the glass, and swam free.
Owen handled field amputations, emergency tracheotomies, and whatever else it took. When he finally returned to Grey Sloan and asked for her help in surgery, all Teddy could manage was, “Whatever you need, I’m right here.”
Later, with the crisis over and the family safe because of Owen, he and Teddy finally had space to finish the conversation that chaos had interrupted.
Teddy told Owen she had chosen their family and wasn’t going to Paris. She explained that she’d taken time to find herself, only to realize everything she wanted was him and their children.
However, Owen insisted she was going to Paris, and he and the kids would follow her. He reasoned that she had moved continents and changed jobs for him, and now it was his turn to follow her. He didn’t want to live in a world where they were apart. Of all the adventures he had chased, building their family was the one that mattered.
After packing their belongings and reflecting on their journeys, Teddy and Owen reunited under the hospital sign for one last hug before heading home together.
